Winter right
Our Winter Right programme aims to improve winter-feeding transition plans, to ensure cows are reaching body condition score targets at calving. This is possible by assessing crop yields and quality. Integral steps to this process are:
- Regular visits to the wintering platform
- Regular condition scoring of animals
- Credible measuring of feed quality and quantity
- Cow mineral testing

DSM
DSM is a farm monitoring and modelling service used to benchmark your on-farm performance with similar farming operations. It rationalises any on farm changes and provides scenario testing.
Examples:
What would be the consequence if the calving date was moved forward by 10 days? How would this effect BCS, supplementary feed requirements over spring, and will it be cost-effective?
Or
What would be the impact of purchasing another 90 in milk cows? How would this change effect total on farm performance and production, and how might this negatively affect the following season?
Heifer advisory
Raising good, well-grown heifers is extremely important for your future herds’ performance. Well-grown heifers are more likely to produce more milk in their first lactation, and get in calf as an R3. Our team of consultants are available to provide expert advice on rearing healthy heifers, which includes nutrition and feeding advice.
Mastitis and reproductive consultancy
Our consultants are experts in SmartSAMM and InCalf programmes, that are designed to maximise economic and production gains on your farm. We work collaboratively, with industry professionals to help you reduce potential mastitis and high SCC issues on farm, and improve reproduction.
Cull a cow
Cull a cow is a service that provides a list of the most suitable cows to remove from your herd based on data collected through MINDA. Our consultants then analyse this data and provide recommendations. The criteria can be farm specific and adjusted to your farming operation.

This service is offered in conjunction with LIC. Collectively, we can provide advice to ensure you are purchasing herds with a high genetic merit.
Farmgate
Farmgate brings together farmers with a common goal, to use research and consulting opportunities to push the boundaries of current systems. It allows farmers to benchmark against one another, and track progress. Client driven initiatives and collaborative research are shaped to help improve productivity, wellbeing, and standards in the individual farm businesses.
Body condition scoring
A cow’s body condition score has a major impact on her milk production, reproduction, health, and welfare. Our certified Body Condition Score assessors are able to provide regular condition scoring assessments, to assist you with making key decisions and allowing you to review past management decisions.
Sustainable milk plans
Under the Land and Water regional plan, many dairy farmers will need a farm environment plan to reach the required standard. The sustainable milk plan has been created specifically for dairy farmers, and has been approved by Environment Canterbury. We can offer a tailored plan free of charge, to help focus your business towards environmentally sustainable farming practices.
Whole farm assessment
Our whole farm assessment combines on farm observation and discussion, with analysis of physical and financial benchmarking data. Farmquest – Sheep and Beef
Don’t let the name fool you, we also offer a farm consultancy service to sheep and beef farming clients. One of the main areas of support we offer is for winter grazing. We can assist with investigating the viability of different grazing plans and then provide full support in assessing.
